Carl Abbott
is professor of Urban Studies and Planning at Portland State University. His general field of research is the history of cities in the United States. He is particularly interested in the history of city planning, in the growth of cities in the American West, and in the relationship between urbanization and regional change, particularly the impact of globalization on cities. Abbott is currently working on a study of the changing regional character of Washington, D.C. as it has evolved from a tidewater town to a global metropolis.
