David Bragdon is the presiding officer of Metro, an elected regional agency that provides transportation and land-use planning services to the 24 cities in the Portland, OR, metropolitan area and surrounding counties. Metro is responsible for establishing and maintaining an urban growth boundary (UGB) for the Portland region, which is considered a national model for urban growth management planning. Prior to being elected to Metro, Bragdon worked in the transportation industry and served as the marketing manager for the Port of Portland. In his first year as a Metro Councilor, Bragdon also served the public as a part-time taxi cab driver from New Year’s Eve 1998 throughout the following year. He received his B.A. degree in government with honors from Harvard College. His hobbies include hiking, running, yoga and watching or riding trains.
