Richard Bender
is an architect, civil engineer and planner specializing in urban and community planning, town planning, campus planning and the planning and redesigning of sites for the arts. He has an international practice in architecture and urban design and is professor of Architecture and dean emeritus at the College of Environmental Design at the University of California at Berkeley. Among his planning projects are master plans for the UC campuses at Berkeley, San Diego, Davis, Santa Cruz and the new campus at Merced; Keio University in Tokyo, Yale University and Harvard University’s new ‘Science District.’ He has also participated in the planning of new towns and large-scale urban development projects in North and South America, Europe, the Middle East, and in Asia. Bender did his graduate study at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University. He has been visiting professor of Architecture at the Graduate School of Design, Harvard University, at MIT, Tokyo University and the Swiss Federal Technical University in Zurich.
