Cinny Kennard is an assistant professor in the School of Journalism at the USC Annenberg School for Communication. Kennard spent nearly 20 years as a broadcast journalist, most recently as CBS News Correspondent assigned to London and Moscow. She covered war in the former Yugoslavia, the conflict in Northern Ireland, and the 1994 battles between Russian President Boris Yeltsin and his country’s parliament. She also covered the uprising following the Rodney King verdict while a CBS news correspondent in Los Angeles. Prior to working for CBS, Kennard was an award-winning local television correspondent for WFAA-TV in Dallas and KHOU TV in Houston and WANE TV in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Kennard was a key member of the team awarded the 1990 Columbia University duPont Award for coverage of the Gulf War, and is currently a juror on the duPont Columbia Award and recently completed judging in 2001 in New York. She also is one of the founders of the Carole Kneeland Project for Responsible Television Journalism, a project that provides leadership training for journalists wanting to move into newsroom management. Additionally, she created Reliable Resources for Broadcast Political Coverage – a joint project of the USC Annenberg School and The Pew Charitable Trusts.
