The FEC is the first place to turn for campaign contribution information. The agency collects and disseminates this information,
as well as enforcing campaign finance laws. Journalists can find disclosure reports and filing forms from the left navigation
bar. These reports are available as PDF files.
Key features:
- Media Guide: The “Backgrounders for Reporters” section summarizes the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act (BCRA) of
2002 (a.k.a. “McCain-Feingold”) in the English language, said Bob Biersack, a deputy press officer. It also explains
how the public financing system works, offers a selected history of FEC enforcement cases, and provides historical and current
summaries of presidential campaigns.
- Reporting forms: A link for them is on the left navigation bar. Check out what these different forms look like to get a sense
of what information the FEC is getting from campaigns, donors and other groups.
- Electioneering Communications section under “Campaign Finance Reports and Data” on
the left navigation bar: Identifies groups that pay for issue ads, explains what electioneering communications are and what information
needs to be disclosed about them.
